JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team tallied eight hits, but dropped a pair of games to Emporia State on Saturday (March 24). The Blue Tigers lost the first game, 10-2, and the second, 12-1.
In the opener, a bases-loaded single by
Andrea Wanta brought in
Chelsey Kerr to cut the ESU lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second. Lincoln's other run came in the third as a sacrifice fly by Kerr drove in
Jordan Lawson. Lawson also contributed to LU's run in the second contest, as her double drove in
Rachael Balke, who also hit a double, in the bottom of the first inning.
Emporia State (12-20, 4-6 MIAA) had 11 hits in both games and took advantage of six Lincoln (3-25, 0-12 MIAA) errors to sweep the double header. The Lady Hornets scored multiple runs in six of the day's 10 innings and held the Blue Tigers scoreless after the first frame of the nightcap.
Wanta went 2-for-2 in the second contest and led Lincoln with three hits on the afternoon. Lawson and Balke had two hits apiece while
Camryn Pryor had one.
Defensively,
Delayne Patton had a strikeout in the circle in game two, and Pryor had 10 putouts to lead LU's fielders. Lawson finished the day with six putouts and
Alyssa Schulte posted three assists while
Tori Nienhueser had two.
Lincoln will close a six-game homestand on Wednesday (March 28) when the Blue Tigers host Harris Stowe for a 2:00 p.m. CDT double-header.
