Bre Coleman and
Faith Brintle combined to score 34 points, but the Lincoln women's basketball team fell to Northwest Missouri, 76-65, in its final game of the 2017-18 season on Saturday (Feb. 24).
Coleman led the Blue Tigers with 19 points and six rebounds and also notched a block and a steal while Brintle finished her day with 15 points, five boards and three assists.
Citlali Lopez was next on the scoring chart with eight points, two boards and a team-high three steals while
Lajanea Kimbrough scored six points to go with three rebounds and two dimes.
Northwest Missouri (5-22, 4-15 MIAA) led 22-13 after the first quarter and 36-28 at halftime, but Lincoln (4-23, 1-18 MIAA) rallied in the third quarter. With LU trailing by six,
Davenport Brantley hit a jumper at the 4:58 mark and Coleman followed with a layup.
Tempary Gunter tied the score at 41 with a bucket with 2:47 left in the period, but the Bearcats drained a quick three to briefly halt the run.
Coleman responded by hitting a pair of free throws, and then, on Lincoln's ensuing possession,
Kailey Foster made a three to put LU ahead, 46-44. Foster also had two rebounds, a block and a steal while Gunter ended the day with three points and three assists. Brantley added five points and a block.
Northwest Missouri, which shot .462 from beyond the arc and made 12 total treys, hit another three at the end of the period to take a 47-46 lead into the final quarter. The Bearcats would go on to score the first seven points of the period and ended up with a 29-19 advantage on the scoreboard to secure the season-ending win. Lincoln shot .365 overall and .353 from three-point land, and forced NWMSU into 19 turnovers while limiting the Bearcats to just seven takeaways. NWMSU, however, out-rebounded the Blue Tigers, 43-26.
Tyler Brown-Henderson added four points and four boards to the Blue Tiger cause, and
Alecia Kaelke rounded out the scoring with two points and a rebound. Following the game, a Senior Day ceremony was held to recognize Lopez, Brown-Henderson, Foster,
Amber Braxton and
Naomi Bryant, who completed their collegiate careers on Saturday.
