QUINCY, Ill. - Five Lincoln players scored in double figures as the LU men's basketball team beat Quincy, 81-66, in its first game at the QU Subway Holiday Classic on Saturday (Dec. 15).
Lincoln (6-3) shot .517 from the floor and .481 from beyond the arc to win its second-straight game. Quincy (5-4) shot .404 overall, but LU limited the Hawks to just .333 from three-point range, and scored 28 points in the paint en route to the 15-point victory.
Terrance Smith scored 22 points to lead the Blue Tiger offensive attack and grabbed four rebounds while blocking a shot.
Jonell Burton, who had three boards, three assists and a block, was next on the scoring chart with 15 points, and
Grant Olsson contributed 10 points, three rebounds and an assist.
The Blue Tigers led from start to finish, shooting .567 in the first half to take a 46-36 lead at the break. LU held a double-digit advantage for the majority of the second half, including taking a 70-53 lead on a trey by
Jonell Burton with under 10 minutes to play. LU would lead by as many as 19 late in the game.
Amariontez Ivory and
John Burton each chipped in 12 points, with Ivory also providing a block and a pair of rebounds.
Ni'Sean Rigmaiden led LU with a career-high 11 assists and scored six points while tallying four steals and three rebounds.
L'Kielynn Taylor closed out the scoring with four points, five boards and two assists.
Lincoln will play its second and final game of the QU Subway Holiday Classic on Sunday (Dec. 16) when the Blue Tigers take on McKendree at 1:00 p.m. CST.
