STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The Lincoln football team fell to Tarleton State in its final road game of the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 3). The Texans, ranked No. 8 in the country in the most recent American Football Coaches Association Division II poll, beat the Blue Tigers, 59-3.
Wolky Belancourt averaged 40.6 yards on eight punts with a career-long of 70 yards. That 70-yard kick is the longest by a GLVC player in 2018 and is tied for the ninth-longest in conference history. Two of Belancourt's punts went at least 50 yards.
Fernando Ramirez hit a 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for LU, and averaged 65.0 yards on kickoffs with a pair of touchbacks. It was a strong day for the Blue Tiger special teams, as Antonio Isaac had a 64-yard punt return and the Lincoln defense blocked a punt.
Edwin Durassaint led Lincoln defensively with 15 tackles, a single-game high for the senior this season.
Vontavious Thacker added 13 tackles while
Victor Williams was next with 11.
JaJuan Chambers notched a sack, and
Tylan Oglesby and
Garen McKinney each broke up passes.
Isaiah Gray blocked a kick and came up with seven tackles, while
Amani Nelson,
Micah Scott and
Robby Dieujuste were each credited with five takedowns apiece.
Hasan Muhammad-Rogers, who generated 41 yards in the return game, finished with four tackles on the afternoon.
Tarleton State improved to 9-0 on the season with the win while Lincoln fell to 3-7. In addition to being the final road game of the season for the Blue Tigers, it was also LU's last non-conference game.
The Blue Tigers will close out the 2018 season next Saturday (Nov. 10) by hosting McKendree for Lincoln's final league game as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT for this contest, which will be both Lincoln's Senior Day and annual Heroes Weekend event.
