Hunter Yoakum scored 31 points, but the Lincoln women's basketball team fell to Northwest Missouri, 98-77, in its final game of the 2016-17 season.
Yoakum also grabbed five rebounds, dished three assists and blocked a shot in her final game as a Blue Tiger. Yoakum closes her four-year career second on Lincoln's all-time scoring chart with 1,214 points. She is Lincoln's all-time leader in made three-pointers with 163 and ranks second in career free throw percentage (.811), fourth in field goals made (427), fifth in free throws made (197) and seventh in assists (176).
Lincoln (5-21, 4-15 MIAA) led for much of the first quarter before Northwest Missouri (9-17, 4-15 MIAA) knotted the score at 23-all entering the second period. The Bearcats out-scored the Blue Tigers by five in that period to take a 41-37 lead into halftime. A jumper by
Erica Gibbons pulled LU to within three, 51-48, in the third quarter, but Northwest Missouri ended the period with a 12-4 run to take control of the contest.
Jordan Matthews scored a season-high 15 points while Gibbons finished with 10.
Khadijah Ellison tallied eight points, four steals, three blocks, three assists and a pair of rebounds.
Tempary Gunter, meanwhile, scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds.
Lincoln had one of its hotter shooting nights of the season, going .424 from the floor and .500 from three-point range. Yoakum drained five of her eight tries from three while Matthews finished 3-for-4 from long range. Both teams committed 13 turnovers, and Northwest Missouri won the rebounding battle by a 39-32 margin. The Bearcats also shot .578 from the floor.
Tyler Brown-Henderson,
Kailey Foster and
Azaria Nave each chipped in two points, with Brown-Henderson also pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Foster had two boards and Nave dished three assists.
Shamirah Johnson closed out Lincoln's performance with three boards and an assist.
