ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team resumed its season on Saturday (Feb. 18), dropping a pair of games played on Maryville University's campus in St. Louis. Below are brief recaps of those contests.
Maryville 8, Lincoln 0
The Saints broke open a one-run game in the third inning with five runs and held Lincoln to just one hit to take the first contest of the day. Maryville initially scored on an error in the second frame, and ended the game two frames early with a pair of scores in the fifth.
Jordan Lawson tallied a single in the fifth inning for Lincoln's hit, and tied
Chelsey Kerr and
Kiley Kerr with two putouts in the field.
Delayne Patton and
Macie Kinsey tied for the team lead with three putouts apiece while
Mykenzie Livesay contributed three assists.
Sarah Westhoff pitched the complete game and registered one strikeout.
Missouri S&T 9, Lincoln 0
The Lady Miners scored in each frame and racked up 11 hits to take game two of the afternoon. Missouri S&T scored three runs in the second inning and two apiece in the first, third and fourth frames while holding the Blue Tigers to two hits.
Kiley Kerr led the game off with a double and a advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, but a ground out and a strikeout kept LU off the board. In the fourth inning, Livesay reached on a dropped fly and Westhoff got on board via a fielder's choice, but neither player advanced past first.
Lincoln also had a chance at a run in the fifth inning. With two outs on the board,
Paige Parker reached on a Missouri S&T error.
Lauren Morrow then singled into centerfield, giving Lincoln multiple baserunners. The Lady Miners, however, were able to force a flyout to end the game.
Kinsey had a strikeout in the circle and
Chelsey Kerr led the LU defense with four putouts. Livesay turned two assists.
Lincoln (0-6) will open its brand new softball stadium on Tuesday (Feb. 21) when the Blue Tigers kick off a four-game homestand with a twinbill against Truman State. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST.
