Anthony Virdure scored 21 points and
Jaylon Smith chipped in 20, but the Lincoln men's basketball team fell to Lindenwood, 73-61, on Tuesday night (Feb. 14).
Virdure and
Maurice Mason each finished with four assists, and Virdure also grabbed four rebounds to go with a pair of steals. Smith led Lincoln with four steals and tallied two rebounds while Mason finished with eight points, three boards, a steal and a block.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with Lincoln (14-11, 7-9 MIAA) forcing Lindenwood (19-10, 8-8 MIAA) into 14 turnovers. The Lions shot .684 from the floor and .500 from long distance, however, and trailed the Blue Tigers by only one point, 36-35, at halftime. For the game, Lindenwood turned the ball over 22 times compared to just nine by the Blue Tigers.
Lindenwood's hot shooting continued in the second half, however, as the Lions shot .571 from the court to finish with a .625 percentage for the game. The Blue Tigers were held to .375 shooting overall and .185 shooting from long range. Lindenwood also held a 36-23 advantage in rebounding.
O'Shai Clark led Lincoln with five rebounds and scored six points while recording a block and a steal.
Richie Lewis,
Tacourrus Mattox and
Kevin Bolen each chipped in two points, with Lewis also securing a pair of rebounds and tallying three steals. Mattox provided three rebounds and a block, while
Rod Ollison dished an assist and
Chase Morfeld had a steal.
The Blue Tigers will remain on the road on Thursday (Feb. 16), as Lincoln travels to Warrensburg, Mo. for a 7:30 p.m. CST game at Central Missouri.
