JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A huge fourth quarter and 28 points from Faith Brintle helped the Lincoln women's basketball team defeat Upper Iowa, 67-59, on Monday evening (Nov. 27).
Brintle added five steals, three rebounds, two blocks and a pair of assists to her game-high point total, and Lajanea Kimbrough tallied nine points, nine boards and three assists as Lincoln (3-4) won its second-straight home game. Citlali Lopez also grabbed nine rebounds and dished three assists to go with six points, and
Naomi Bryant chipped in seven points to go with a pair of rebounds.
Upper Iowa (2-5) closed out a back-and-forth first quarter by hitting a pair of free throws to take a 12-11 lead, then built a seven-point lead by going on a 10-0 run mid-way through the second period. The Peacocks ended up taking a 31-26 lead into halftime and led by as many as seven in the third quarter.
Three-straight free throws and a bucket by Robin Butler cut the UIU lead down to two, and
Tempary Gunter hit a shot at the line to send the game into the fourth quarter with the Peacocks clinging to a 44-41 lead. The fourth quarter belonged to the Blue Tigers, as Brintle scored the first five points of the period, and helped LU out-score Upper Iowa, 26-15.
Butler had six points, three boards and a block for LU, and Gunter added three points and a steal. Lincoln blocked five shots in the win, with Bre Coleman accounting for two of those rejections as well as five points, three rebounds and a steal. Kailey Foster made a free throw and grabbed three rebounds, and Karissa Black closed out the scoring with two points, five boards and an assist. Alecia Kaelke also had a rebound in the win.
Lincoln will next play on Saturday (Dec. 2), as the Blue Tigers travel to Kansas City, Mo. to take on UMKC in a 5:00 p.m. CST exhibition contest.
