Blue Tigers Drop Home Opener to Missouri S&T


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri S&T took advantage of hot second-half shooting to hand the Lincoln women's basketball team a 72-57 loss in its home opener of Tuesday evening (Nov. 14).

The Blue Tigers scored six points in the first minute-and-a-half and held a 13-9 lead with 3:24 to play in the first quarter. The Lady Miners ended the period on a 6-0 run, and led by as many as five before a layup by Alecia Kaelke knotted the score at 25 with 4:21 until halftime. Citlali Lopez later added a layup to send the game into the intermission with Missouri S&T up just 29-27.

The second half was a different story, however, as Missouri S&T (3-0) opened the third quarter with a 14-4 run to take control of the game. The Lady Miners shot .593 from the floor in the final two quarters and held Lincoln (1-2) to just 11 buckets to secure the win. For the game, Missouri S&T held a slim 34-31 advantage in rebounding while both teams committed 17 turnovers.

Lopez grabbed four rebounds and led the Blue Tigers with 12 points while Lajanea Kimbrough finished with eight points, six boards and three assists. Robin Butler led Lincoln in rebounding with nine and chipped in eight points to go with an assist and a steal. Naomi Bryant, meanwhile, scored four points and tied Kimbrough with three assists.

Charnai Anderson provided seven points off the bench and Bre Coleman contributed six points, a block and a steal. Faith Brintle added five points, Kailey Foster dished two assists and Tyler Brown-Henderson had two points while Karissa Black closed the scoring with three points and three rebounds. Davenport Brantley added a steal to the Lincoln cause.

The Blue Tigers will travel to Peoria, Ill. on Wednesday (Nov. 15) to play an exhibition contest against Division I Bradley. Tip-off for that game, which can be viewed online on ESPN3, is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CST.
