PITTSBURG, Kan. - Three Blue Tigers scored in double figures, but the Lincoln women's basketball team lost to Pittsburg State on Thursday night (Jan. 12). The Gorillas, who are ranked No. 5 in the country in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Division II poll, beat Lincoln, 106-67.
Azaria Nave led LU with 14 points and grabbed five rebounds to go with a team-high four assists.
Erica Gibbons added 12 points and three boards while
Asia McCaskill scored 11. McCaskill also finished with six rebounds and an assist.
Pittsburg State (15-1, 7-0 MIAA) out-scored Lincoln (2-12, 1-6 MIAA) 28-15 in the second quarter to take a 51-30 halftime lead. The Gorillas, who held a 50-35 edge in rebounding and forced LU into 15 turnovers, added 35 points in the third quarter to take control of the contest.
Tempary Gunter led LU with seven rebounds and scored seven points, tying
Hunter Yoakum and Tyler-Brown Henderson. Yoakum also dished three assists and grabbed three rebounds while Brown-Henderson finished with six boards.
Khadijah Ellison provided four points, three boards and a pair of assists to the Lincoln cause.
Citlali Lopez and
Jordan Matthews closed out the scoring with three and two points, respectively.
Lincoln will remain on the road on Saturday (Jan. 14) to play Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. at 1:00 p.m. CST.
