Blue Tigers Drop GLVC Opener



JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Quincy scored three first-quarter touchdowns and held on to beat the Lincoln football team, 40-14, in the GLVC opener for both teams on Saturday (Sept. 17).

The Quincy defense stifled Lincoln in the first half, holding starting quarterback Andrew McIntyre to 20 passing yards. Dennis Vinson played under center for LU for most of the second half, and completed eight passes for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Bryson Winfrey led Lincoln (0-3, 0-1 GLVC) with three receptions, including hauling in a 29-yard reception early in the fourth quarter for the Blue Tigers' first score of the day. Justin Kelly, Delvon Rouser and Anthony Townsend each had two catches apiece, with Townsend making a somersault grab over a defender in the end zone for Lincoln's second score.

Quincy (3-0, 1-0 GLVC) controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game, rushing for 303 yards and a touchdown. The Blue Tigers held the Hawks to just a pair of field goals in the second quarter, and shut out Quincy in the fourth. The Lincoln defense forced four fumbles, and recovered three, and broke up seven passes.

Addison Tucker led the LU defense with 14 tackles and broke up a pass while Maurice Simmons tallied 13 tackles. Amani Nelson and JaJuan Chambers each finished with six tackles, including one for a loss. Marvin Holley and Taj Moore also made six tackles apiece, with Holley forcing and recovering a fumble.

Lawrence Hogue made five tackles and broke up two passes while Willard Cotton had a break-up to go with three tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery. Anthony Mitchell also recovered a fumble, and Chrishun Richardson broke up a pass. Julius Jackson made four tackles and was credited with a quarterback hurry while Aaron Brown added eight tackles to the LU effort.

The Blue Tigers will be back on the road next week, traveling to Kirksville, Mo. on Saturday (Sept. 24) to play Truman State at 7:00 p.m. CDT.
