Blue Tigers Drop Two to Maryville

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Maryville took advantage of 27 hits to hand the Lincoln softball team a pair of losses on Tuesday (April 12). In the first game, the Blue Tigers scored two late runs before falling 10-2. In the second, Maryville broke open a one-run gamei n the fifth inning en route to a 6-0 win.

The Saints scored in each of the first four frames of the opener, putting Lincoln into a 9-0 hole entering the fifth inning. Macie Kinsey got Lincoln's offense started with a base hit, and Avery Myers followed with a single into right field. Spencer Silva then put the Blue Tigers on the board with a bases-clearing double to score both Kinsey and Myers.

Lincoln shut out the Saints in the bottom of the fifth, but Maryville went on to score on an RBI single in the sixth to end the game early. Hope McLeod also had a hit for LU and tied Jessica Wolken, Kinsey and Silva with two putouts. Sarah Westhoff and Kiley Kerr each had three putouts, with Kerr making a diving catch to take away a Maryville hit. Tori Nienhueser recorded three assists while Silva added two.

In the second game, Lincoln (5-42) was limited to three hits, one each by Nienhueser, Lauren Stamp and Madison Ragar. Maryville (33-7) scored in the bottom of the first on a double, but Ragar pitched three scoreless innings afterwards, finishing with three strikeouts.

Maryville broke open the game in the fifth with five runs on four hits. Sarah Westhoff came in to pitch the six inning, and had a strikeout while holding the Saints without a run. Stamp, meanwhile, led LU with six putouts while Myers was next with five. Silva recorded four assists while Nienhueser provided two.

Lincoln will remain on the road on Wednesday (April 13), traveling to Lebanon, Ill. to play a twinbill against McKendree. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CDT.
