QUINCY, Ill. - The Lincoln baseball team racked up 17 hits, but dropped both games of a road twinbill against Quincy on Tuesday afternoon (March 8). The Blue Tigers fell in the first game, 21-7, and dropped the second contest, 12-3.
The Blue Tigers tallied seven hits in the opener, including two by
Dillon Walker, who had a pair of RBI. Lincoln's first run of the afternoon came on a fielder's choice, however, as
Kaleb Davis scored
Dillon Walker, who had initially reached on an error. The score came in the top of the first, but Quincy quickly tied it on a solo homerun in the bottom half of the frame.
Dylan Koehler put LU back on top in the second by scoring
Daniel Castillo on a ground out, and the 2-1 lead held until the bottom of the third, when another solo homerun knotted the game up at 2-2.
Alex Ludwick led the fourth inning off with a double, and a double by
Jackson Walker gave Lincoln back the lead. Koehler was hit by a pitch and
Nick Lovell singled through the left side to load the bases. A double by
Dillon Walker made it a 5-2 game, and a fielder's choice in the next at-bat put LU up by four.
Mason Price then closed the scoring for LU with a base hit to bring home
Dillon Walker for a 7-2 lead.
Quincy ended up finishing the game with 21 hits, eight of which came in the bottom of the fourth. The Hawks plated 11 runs in that inning to take their first lead of the afternoon. The Quincy defense then held Lincoln without a hit for the rest of the contest, and used an eight-run fifth inning to end the game in seven frames.
Davis had seven putouts, Ludwick recorded four and
Mike Million was responsible for three.
Dillon Walker contributed two assists.
Kolton Clark and
Dylan Wood both struck out a pair of Quincy batters while relievers
Zach Moore and
Kyler Lundgrin fanned one batter each.
In the second game, Quincy (8-1) took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second, but Lincoln (1-15) came right back in the third. A two-out single from Price scored
Dillon Walker from second to tie the game, and Davis later brought in Price on a base hit into left field to put the Blue Tigers on top, 2-1.
The Hawks had a quick response, as QU brought in three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third to go back up, 4-2. Quincy then used four hits in the fourth to score four more runs to increase the lead to 8-2. Price hit a solo homerun in the fifth, but that ended up being LU's final run of the afternoon.
Price went 3-for-4 in the second game while Davis had two hits and Million,
Jake Walker,
Dillon Walker, Ludwick and Lovell each had one. Defensively, Davis led the way with six putouts. Million recorded four putouts while Clark and Price each finished with three.
Dillon Walker again led LU with two assists.
