EMPORIA, Kan. - The Lincoln baseball team continued its first MIAA road trip of the season with a single game on Saturday (March 5) at Emporia State, but fell to the Hornets in a 17-2 decision.
Kolton Clark had two hits for the Blue Tigers, including a double to open the game. A ground out by
Dillon Walker advanced Clark to third, and an error by ESU's third baseman allowed Lincoln to take an early 1-0 lead.
Emporia State scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame, but
Mike Million led LU off in the second inning with a base hit through the left side. Million was caught stealing, however, and the Blue Tigers were unable to score a tying run. The Hornets took advantage, breaking open the game with five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take control of the contest.
Lincoln did not get back on the board until the seventh inning, when Million tallied his second hit of the afternoon. A base hit by
Jake Walker advanced Million to second before a third-straight hit, this one by
Jackson Walker, allowed Million to score.
Kaleb Davis led Lincoln defensively with four putouts. Million,
Mason Price and
Jackson Walker each had three putouts apiece while
Nick Lovell added two putouts and an assist. Davis also had two assists for LU. On the mound, closer
Daniel Castillo struck out three Hornet batters.
Lincoln will close out its first road MIAA series of 2016 on Sunday (March 6) with a 12:00 p.m. CST contest against the Hornets.
