JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team fell to Fort Hays State, 11-1, on a chilly afternoon at LU Baseball Field on Thursday (March 24).
Lincoln's run came in the bottom of the seventh, as
Jeffery Jackson reached base on a wild pitch. Back-to-back singles from
Dillon Walker and
Kaleb Davis loaded the bags, and
Mike Million was issued a walk to score Jackson. Fort Hays State managed to retire the next three batters, however, to end the game in seven innings.
Fort Hays State (11-14, 5-9 MIAA) scored in five of its offensive innings, including five runs in the sixth to take an 11-0 advantage. Lincoln (1-23, 0-14 MIAA), meanwhile, recorded seven hits and had at least one base runner in every frame. By the end of the contest, however, 11 Blue Tigers were stranded on the base path.
Zach Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Million,
Alex Ludwick and
Kolton Clark also had hits.
Zach Maskill pitched the first 5.2 frames and struck out two batters. Davis led the defense with six putouts while Jackson made five assists.
The Blue Tigers will return to LU Baseball Field on Friday (March 25) to host FHSU again at 3:00 p.m. CDT.
