LU Falls in Weather-Shortened Contest

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The day started well for the Lincoln baseball, but ended with a loss to Northwest Missouri in a weather-shortened game on Saturday (March 19). The Bearcats used a pair of big innings to hand LU a 16-1 defeat in five frames.

Lincoln retired the Northwest Missouri side in three at-bats in the bottom of the first inning, thanks in part to a clutch 6-4-3 double play. With the game scoreless, Mason Price put the Blue Tigers on the board in the top of the second with a lead-off homerun.

In the bottom of the second, however, Northwest Missouri (12-9, 7-4 MIAA) plated six runs on three hits and a Lincoln (1-20, 0-11 MIAA) error. The Bearcats later scored seven times in the fourth inning. The contest ended before the bottom of the fifth inning was concluded to inclement weather in the Maryville area.

Dillon Walker and Kaleb Davis also had hits for LU. Cody Stegemann had a strikeout on the mound and Walker led LU with two assists. Davis and Mike Million tied for the team-lead with three putouts apiece.

The Blue Tigers and the Bearcats are scheduled to conclude their season series on Sunday (March 20) with a 1:00 p.m. CDT contest.
