JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Alex Ludwick hit a pair of homeruns, but the Lincoln baseball team lost to Northeastern State, 25-7, on Monday afternoon (March 14).
Ludwick's second homerun came in the bottom of the fifth, as he hit a three-run shot to pull the Blue Tigers to within 15-7 of the RiverHawks. The shot over the right centerfield wall also plated
Mike Million and
Mason Price, each of whom were issued walks. Ludwick's first homerun came in the third, as he hit a solo shot for LU's fourth score of the afternoon.
Northeastern State (12-7, 6-3 MIAA) took advantage of five homeruns of its own, including a grand slam in the second inning and a pair of two-run shots in the first. The initial two homers gave NSU an early 4-0 advantage, but Lincoln (1-18, 0-9 MIAA) pulled back to within one in the bottom of the frame.
Kolton Clark led the game off by being hit by a pitch, and a single from Million followed by an error that allowed Ludwick to reach loaded the bases.
Trevor Schnieders then recorded the first RBI of the day for LU without even needing to swing, as he was issued a walk to score Clark and keep the bases full. That brought up
Kaleb Davis, who hit a line drive deep enough through the middle to bring in both Million and Ludwick, cutting the Northeastern State lead down to 4-3.
Davis finished with two hits on the afternoon while
Daniel Castillo had one.
Cody Stegemann and
Kyler Lundgrin each struck out a pair of batters on the mound while Davis recorded five putouts and Ludwick and
Dillon Walker each tallied four. Clark, Walker and Ludwick each added a pair of assists.
The Blue Tigers will resume MIAA play next weekend with a three-game series in Maryville, Mo. against Northwest Missouri. That series begins on Friday (March 18) with a 3:00 p.m. CDT contest; continues on Saturday (March 19) with another game at 2:00 p.m. CDT; and closes on Sunday (March 20) with a 1:00 p.m. CDT game.
