Four Reach Double Digits as Blue Tigers Fall to NWMSU

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Four members of the Lincoln women's basketball team scored in double figures, but Northwest Missouri managed to hold off a late LU rally to hand the Blue Tigers a 73-63 loss on Thursday night (Feb. 4).

Azaria Nave led Lincoln with 15 points and three assists while also grabbing three rebounds. Hunter Yoakum scored 14, including making a pair of three-point shots that moved her into second place on Lincoln's all-time career chart. Yoakum now has made 125 treys over her three-year LU career, one more than Quenita Washington's 124 from 2007-11, and is 26 shy of the all-time record of 151.

Zuri Hill nearly had her second-straight double-double, finishing with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Lizzie Nessling, meanwhile, rounded out LU's double-digit scorers with 12 points and five boards.

Northwest Missouri (4-18, 2-14 MIAA) led for the entire game and held a 49-29 advantage with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter before Nave started the Blue Tiger comeback with a shot from downtown. Nessling hit a jumper before Nave finished the quarter with another three, a steal and a layup to pull Lincoln (8-14, 4-12 MIAA) within 49-39.

The Bearcat lead hovered around double-digits for the first half of the final period until Hill made a pair of free throws to start one final Lincoln run. Asia McCaskill followed that with a three-pointer to cut the deficit down to seven, and one more long range basket by Nave made it a 63-57 affair with 2:23 remaining.

Six points was as close as the Blue Tigers would get, however, as Northwest Missouri kept finding ways to score to keep Lincoln at bay. LU closed the gap back down to six at 69-63 with 35 seconds to play, but NWMSU made four free throws to end the game with a 10-point victory.

Dorian Briggs added four points and two rebounds to the Blue Tiger cause while Jasmine Guthrie scored two points to go with two assists and a pair of steals. Sarah Neptune also dished two assists.

Lincoln will close out a four-game road trip on Saturday (Feb. 6) when the Blue Tigers visit Missouri Western for a 3:00 p.m. CST contest.
