2016 Lincoln Basketball Senior Day Ceremony Photo GalleryJEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team mounted a furious rally, getting to within two late in the fourth quarter, but Lindenwood held off the comeback to beat the Blue Tigers, 73-63, on Saturday (Feb. 27).
Lindenwood (8-20, 4-18 MIAA) out-scored Lincoln (8-20, 4-17 MIAA), 24-16, in the first quarter, putting the Blue Tigers in a hole from which they never quite recovered. The Lady Lions led by 10, 42-32, at halftime, but the Blue Tigers rallied to out-score Lindenwood, 18-16, in the third period.
Lincoln opened the final quarter on a 5-0 run to pull within 58-55, and later cut the deficit down to three on a layup from
Zuri Hill. A foul sent Hill to the line on LU's next possession, and she hit one of her two shots to cut the Lindenwood lead down to 60-58. Hill finished the day with a team-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds while tallying an assist.
The Lady Lions responded by hitting a layup and then draining a three on back-to-back possessions, and ultimately went on a 12-0 run to take a 14-point lead with 1:49 remaining. The Blue Tigers fought back to get the deficit down to 10 on a three-pointer from
Dorian Briggs, but Lindenwood held on for the win. Briggs ended her day with 13 points, four boards and three assists.
Lizzie Nessling also scored in double-digits, tallying 10 points, six rebounds and an assist.
Asia McCaskill, meanwhile, nearly had a double-double, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds, a block and an assist.
Azaria Nave added five points to the Lincoln effort while
Hunter Yoakum scored four to go with five boards and a team-high four assists.
Sarah Neptune and
Jasmine Guthrie rounded out the scoring with three points and two points, respectively.
Seleena Neal, meanwhile, had a rebound.
The Blue Tigers finished with a 42-34 advantage in rebounding, but committed 19 turnovers while Lindenwood had 11 giveaways. Lincoln shot .339 from the floor while Lindenwood shot .458, with both teams attempting 59 shots.
With Saturday being the final game of the season, Lincoln held a Senior Day ceremony following the game. Briggs, Guthrie, Hill, Neal, Neptune and Nessling were all honored for completing their final games as Blue Tigers.
