Hunter Yoakum scored 22 points and
Azaria Nave added 16, but Missouri S&T used a big fourth quarter to hand the Lincoln women's basketball team a 73-66 loss on Wednesday (Nov. 16).
Tempary Gunter came close to a double-double, tallying 10 points, seven boards and three steals. Yoakum added five rebounds, three assists and a block while Nave finished with three assists and a steal.
After falling behind 10-3 early in the first quarter, Yoakum made a pair of free throws to key Lincoln on an 8-0 run, giving the Blue Tigers their first lead of the night. Missouri S&T came back to end the first period with a 15-13 lead, but Nave hit a pair of jumpers early in the second quarter to put the Blue Tigers back up by two.
Lincoln (0-2) led by as many as four in the second quarter, and were up by two, 28-26, courtesy of a Yoakum jumper with 3:29 remaining in the half. Missouri S&T (2-1) responded with a 6-0 run, but Yoakum drained a three in the final minute of the quarter to send LU into halftime down just 32-31.
The Blue Tigers came out of the gate hot in the third quarter, using a 13-6 run to take a 44-38 lead on a Gunter trey with 4:45 showing on the clock. That ended up being Lincoln's largest lead of the game, however, as the Lady Miners stormed back to take a 50-49 lead entering the final period. In the fourth quarter, Missouri S&T out-scored LU, 23-17, to pull away for the win.
Erica Gibbons provided nine points, four rebounds and three steals to the Lincoln cause while
Shamirah Johnson also pulled down four rebounds to go with two points, a block and a steal.
Kailey Foster added three points while
Citlali Lopez contributed two points, four boards and three assists.
Tyler Brown-Henderson rounded out the scoring with two points, five boards and a steal.
The Blue Tigers will open their home slate on Friday night (Nov. 18) with a 7:00 p.m. CST game against Missouri-St. Louis.
