Blue Tigers Fall to SBU in Season Finale

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln football team scored two touchdowns off Southwest Baptist turnovers, but the Bearcats scored 36 unanswered points to hand the Blue Tigers a 50-12 loss on Saturday (Nov. 12). Lincoln ended up forcing four turnovers in the regular season finale for both teams.

Southwest Baptist (10-1, 7-1 GLVC) came in ranked No. 21 in the country in the coaches poll, but it was Lincoln (1-10, 0-8 GLVC) that scored first after forcing SBU's opening drive to end in a turnover. Addison Tucker forced a fumble at the SBU 45 and Julius Jackson jumped on it to give Lincoln's offense great starting field position. Dennis Vinson took advantage, connecting with Deonte Latimer on a 45-yard touchdown pass on LU's first offensive play to give Lincoln the lead.

The extra point was blocked, and Southwest Baptist ended up scoring twice to take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. On the Blue Tigers' first punt of the second quarter, however, the Bearcat returner muffed the punt, giving Lincoln the ball at the SBU 17. Vinson found Latimer at the two to set LU up with first and goal, and Darius Hicks later caught a pass in the end zone to pull LU to within 14-12 of the Bearcats.

Southwest Baptist once again blocked the extra point, however, and kept Lincoln off the board afterwards. The Bearcats out-gained Lincoln, 455-145, en route to the win.

Vinson played the entire first half, and finished with nine completions for 108 yards and the two scores. Andrew McIntyre and Bryson Winfrey split time behind center in the second half. Winfrey had a five-yard run and caught two passes for 10 yards. Latimer finished with team-highs in receptions (four) and yards (79) while Hicks finished with two grabs for 19 yards. Justin Kelly and Delvon Rouser each also had receptions.

Tucker led the Lincoln defense with 16 tackles, including 12 solo. Aaron Brown made 10 tackles while Willard Cotton finished with nine, a forced fumble, a pass break-up and a quarterback hurry. Jackson made seven tackles, recovered two fumbles and was credited with a pair of quarterback hurries.

Marvin Holley made an interception and Taj Moore broke up two passes. Rashon Riddles and Jamell Tombah each forced fumbles, and Faleaoga Russell had a sack. Jeff Jones and Phillip Kind each broke up passes, with Jones also making eight tackles. Russell and Anthony Mitchell, meanwhile, each made 2.5 tackles for loss.
