JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Southern's defense proved too tough for the Lincoln women's basketball team to overcome as the Blue Tigers dropped a 78-38 decision on Thursday night (Jan. 21).
Missouri Southern (12-6, 6-6 MIAA) shot .455 from the floor and .433 from three-point range while finishing with a 37-33 advantage in rebounding. The Lions jumped out to a 20-9 first quarter lead, and scored 24 in the third quarter to maintain a big throughout the contest.
Lincoln (7-11, 3-9 MIAA) was led in scoring by
Hunter Yoakum with 10 points and in rebounding by
Zuri Hill with nine. Hill also scored four points and dished an assist while Yoakum dropped two dimes and grabbed a rebound.
Lizzie Nessling grabbed six boards and scored three points while dishing a pair of assists.
Asia McCaskill finished second on the scoring list with eight points and grabbed four rebounds to go with a block.
Dorian Briggs and
Jasmine Guthrie each contributed four points and four rebounds, with Briggs also tallying a steal and an assist.
Sarah Neptune recorded three points, two steals, a block, an assist and a rebound while
Azaria Nave rounded out the scoring with two points and an assist.
The Blue Tigers will be back on their home court on Saturday (Jan. 23), hosting Pittsburg State at 1:30 p.m. CST. The contest is Lincoln's Coaches vs. Cancer Pink Out Game, with fans encouraged to show their support for both LU and the fight against cancer by wearing pink to Jason Gym.
