A two-sport star for the Blue Tigers from 1954-1958, Ted Savage enjoyed a nine-year career in Major League Baseball. His best season was 1970, when he posted a line of .279 batting average/.402 on-base percentage/.482 slugging percentage in 276 at-bats for the 1970 Milwaukee Brewers. Savage also played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds during his professional career, making him one of the most successful athletes in the history of Lincoln baseball. As a basketball player at Lincoln, Savage earned All-MWAA honors in 1956 and 1957 after being one of the team's leading scorers in both seasons.
