One of the best field athletes in Lincoln history, Stanley J. McDonald, Jr. won the NCAA championship in the discus throw in 1965 and was a three-time NAIA and NCAA All-American. A member of three consecutive All-NCAA Midwest Regional teams, McDonald won the MWAA championship in the discus throw in each of his four years as a Blue Tiger. As a freshman in 1964, McDonald led Lincoln to the MWAA Championship. He also won the NAIA national title in the discus throw in 1965. Following his Lincoln career, McDonald, a member of LU's band and ROTC program, served in the U.S. Special Forces in Germany and Vietnam. He passed away in an aviation accident in 2007.
