Another member of that historic 1966-67 men's basketball team, Marshall Evans is the only Blue Tiger to ever be drafted into both the National Basketball Association and the American Basketball Association, being selected by both the Houston Rockets (NBA) and Pittsburgh Pipers (ABA) in 1968. Evans averaged a double-double in 1966-67, recording 23.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest. Evans was the co-captain and an every-game starter on that squad, which was ranked in the NCAA Division II Top-10 for 10 straight weeks and finished the season No. 3 in the country.
During his junior and senior seasons, Evans led the Blue Tigers to berths in the NCAA Division II National Tournament, posting records of 25-3 (1966-67) and 20-3 (1967-68) in the process. Over his four year career, Evans averaged 19.0 points and 9.2 rebounds, highlighted by an 18-point, 26-rebound performance in a 1968 win over Kentucky State. Evans scored 1,648 points and pulled down 857 rebounds, leading Lincoln to 68 total victories.
