Another outstanding football player, James D. Brown was a four-year starter on both the offensive and defensive lines. A two-time All-MWAA player, Brown led the Blue Tigers to four-consecutive winning seasons, including a victory over Emporia State in the Mineral Water Bowl in 1958. Brown's teams won 27 games and the 1958 MWAA Championship. Brown, who received an invitation to the Baltimore Colts' training camp following his playing career, was named the captain of the 1959 LU squad, and led the team to a 7-2-1 record.
