A two-sport athlete who went on to play professional football, Eddie L. Edwards excelled as both a fullback and a track star at Lincoln from 1963-67. Edwards never experienced a losing season at Lincoln, helping the Blue Tigers to a 7-2 record as a senior. In 1964, Edwards was a key part of an LU team that finished 8-2 and was ranked No. 5 in the nation according to the Pittsburgh Courier. Following his Lincoln career, Edwards spent time in the American Football League with the Houston Oilers; the National Football League with the St. Louis Cardinals; the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers; and the Continental Football League with the Alabama Hawks. A fantastic all-around athlete, Edwards also set the school record in the shot put with a throw of 55-feet, two-inches.
