The only team in program history to ever qualify for the postseason, the 1958 Lincoln football team capped a 7-1 season by winning the Mineral Water Bowl, 21-0, over Emporia State. Despite only playing eight games after several opponents backed out of scheduled contests, the 1958 squad scored 242 points, the sixth-most in school history. Lincoln shut out four of its opponents, including winning a 46-0 decision over Missouri-Rolla and beating Central Missouri, 41-0. The only blemish on the record was a road loss to Mankato State, when time ran out on a comeback bid that left LU on the short end of a 21-14 decision. Lincoln only allowed 58 points all season, won the MWAA conference championship and was ultimately ranked as the No. 2 black college team in America.
